In this term we are going to rewiew basic English structures grammar in order to improve writting skills to prepare students for speaking and reading.
The next reading will show you a typical phone call where you will find the regular use of the second conditional. In the reading you will see some underlined sentences that show the use of the second conditional.
If you take a look at the handout, you’ll find all the telephone numbers, addresses and other necessary information. If Tom were here, he'd help me with this presentation. Unfortunately, he couldn't make it today. OK, let's get started: Today’s subject is helping guests with emergency situations. We'd certainly have a worse reputation if we didn't handle these situations well. That's why we like to review these procedures every year.
If a guest looses his passport, call the consulate immediately. If the consulate isn’t nearby, you’ll have to help the guest get to the appropriate consulate. It would be great if we had some more consulates here. However, there are also a few in Boston. Next, if a guest has an accident which is not so serious, you’ll find the first-aid kit under the reception desk. If the accident is serious, call an ambulance.
Sometimes guests need to return home unexpectedly. If this happens, the guest might need your help making travel arrangements, re-scheduling appointments, etc. Do everything you can to make this situation as easy to cope with as possible. If there is a problem, the guest will expect us to be able to handle any situation. It’s our responsibility to make sure ahead of time that we can.
According to the conditionals try to answer the next question:
1. What would you change if you were Alvaro Uribe Velez?
2. What would you ask for if you had a magic lamp?
3. What would you do if you were a millonaire?

ReplyDeleteTHIS IS A GOOD STRATEGY, BECAUSE THE READING IS USED TO EXPLAIN THE SECOND CONDITIONAL AD IT IS ATRACTIVE TO EVERY PERSON WHO VISITS THIS PLACE.
ReplyDeleteWHAT IS THE PRINCIPAL REASON TO USE THIS PHOTOGRAPHY?, CAUSE IT IS INTERESTING AND RARE

I think that the subject selected has to be more related to real life contexts. The questions posted made me feel a little bit confused because I read a text about a topic and the questions talked about something else. I would recommend you to explain the second conditional with the text and then make students write what they would do if they had to work at a hotel or a situation related with the text posted. The design of the blog is very nice, it makes me feel relaxed and it is nice that it has images too. I also recommend you to try to put some gadgets for students to play or practice writing in a different way. Congrats for the job done!

There are some spelling and grammatical mistakes you should take into account.
The activity in general is good, I think you are asking about topics that often students are interesting in.
Development of the activity:
1. If I were Alvaro Uribe, I would delegate an appropiate group of people to develope an special office and help people properly.
2.If I had a magic lamp, I would ask for everlasting happyness.
3. If I were a millionaire, I would travel around the world so many times, and also I would help people with needs specially here in Colombia.
1. If I were Alvaro Uribe, I'd go down the price of the gasoline.
ReplyDelete2. If I had a magic lamp, I'd ask for having my own house.
3. If I were a millonaire, I'd build many schools for poor children.

ReplyDeleteI liked this blog, it's a good tool to motivate students about a topic like this which's sometimes hard to explain or teaching. Maybe adding some video in the blog would do it more interesting atractive.
R1/: If I were Alvaro Uribe, I wouldn't propuese my name to a third reelection.
R2/: If I got a magic lamp, I'd ask for having more time to study or maybe getting a lot of money to expend it with my family and friend.
R3/: If I were a rich man, I'd travel around the world.
SORRY, WE FORGOT WRITE OUR CODES

Your text was good, I notice that you strained in the accomplishment, but the questions were very different ,the text was explaining what can we do in a emergecy, I advise you to do activities where people could interact.
ReplyDeleteI like the second picture, because is a way to cut the formal introducction about a topic.
ReplyDeleteI think that they abord the topic so informal and it is good , because is atractive for the students or someone to read this explanation.
I like the examples that they gave, and the underlying sentences, because it focus the information. It is so easy to understand
In my opinio the first picutre and the first questions are not necesary.

I think that the blogger can help us because it give a critical point of view about the society in all fields (economic, scholarship, social, politic) and how it affects the academic context.
nevertheless, I think that the topic is a bit confuse because is not clear the activity.
We think your activity is very interesting because it uses a real context to show grammar topics, in order to improve writing skills.
